Congratulations to everyone who completed the San Francisco half marathon or 5k yesterday! We had an outstanding group who braved the rain, the cold, and the wind to run a great course through San Francisco. The course was fast as it wound it's way through Golden Gate park, and it was still enjoyable as you came out and ran up the flat Great Highway next to the coast. But as soon as you made the turn to come back on the highway, it was like slamming into a brick wall of wind. The last three miles were on flat ground but felt like they were uphill, but that wasn't enough to stop several Stanford triathletes from getting best times. Congrats to Bryan, Kevin, Mark, and all the others who PR'ed!
Also, be sure to congratulate 1st time half-marathoners Susan, Daniel, and Henny! Welcome to the ranks of the crazy and masochistic.
Overall, our top performer was Elliot Wright with a blazing time of 1:18:54, and an overall 21st place finish. Our top female performer was Marion Stras, who was the 14th overall woman finisher in a time of 1:26:52. Also of note was James Nielson, last year's triathlon team president, who ran an incredible 1:09:09 and finished second overall.
I want to thank Kendall and Derek for driving in the carpool from Stanford, and thank you Sherry for getting everyone in such good shape for this race!
The first race of the triathlon season is in the books now, and it was a great one! If this race is any indication, this triathlon season is going to be incredible for Stanford. Great job, everyone, and keep training hard!
